To meet the small peak season before the Spring Festival, container shipping companies have successively introduced the strategy of raising freight rates from January 1st. The owners of American Line reported to the United States Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) that each large container (40-foot container) in West America and East America would increase by $1,000 and inland by $2,000. However, large freight forwarding companies think that it is very difficult to raise prices, and it is good for freight forwarding companies to estimate that they can increase by 100 or 200; For European routes, it is estimated that it may actually increase by $50.

At present, it is about one month before the Lunar New Year. Insiders pointed out that in previous years, six weeks before the Spring Festival, shippers started to scramble for booking space. This year, we didn't see the situation of grabbing space. If the freight rate can go up, we mainly rely on the shipping company to reduce the shift. As only a few flights will be fully loaded when the shift is reduced, the loading rate of most flights will still be insufficient, and the freight forwarding company thinks it is very difficult to raise prices.

Instead, the original weekly flights, now many of them are open every other week. Forwarding companies need to fully grasp the situation of shift reduction, otherwise they will have to wait two weeks for smooth shipment if there is a delay, and shipping companies are also worried that customers will be delayed for two weeks before shipment, which will avoid over-collection, so as not to offend customers.

At present, the reduction rate of shipping companies is about 30%. The industry believes that unless there is further reduction of flights, it will increase by 50 or 100 at most a year ago, and then it will fall back immediately after the year. There is still no need to look forward to it in the first quarter of next year.

Because American shipping companies want to report their freight rates to FMC, they all adopt the strategy of over-reporting, so as not to miss the opportunity of price increase when the freight rates can rise sharply due to some special factors. For other routes, they inform customers one month in advance according to the price increase regulations of various countries.
