According to foreign media reports, recently, the London court has ordered Savaro, a company registered in the UK, to pay more than 800,000 pounds (US$ 1 million) in compensation to the victims of the Beirut port explosion on August 4, 2020, when they sold a large amount of ammonium nitrate, causing more than 220 deaths.

According to Reuters, a group of Lebanese lawyers confirmed the news in their first verdict on the explosion on June 12th.

More specifically, according to a statement of the Beirut Bar Association, the court ordered Savaro to pay 100,000 pounds plus interest to each of the relatives of the three deceased victims, and to pay compensation of slightly more than 500,000 pounds to an injured woman.

Reuters reported that on January 31st, 2023, the High Court of London ruled that Savaro should be responsible for death, personal injury and property loss in the case brought by the association on behalf of the explosion victims.

On August 4, 2020, a violent explosion occurred in Beirut port, which was caused by a fire of 2,750 tons of high explosive ammonium nitrate. This batch of chemicals has been stored in the warehouse of the port for six years. The explosion caused serious damage to the port and most of the capital area, and a large number of buildings and facilities were destroyed, resulting in the tragedy of about 200 people killed and more than 6,000 injured.
